Karin Duermeyer

Karin Duermeyer is IBM Distinguished Engineer (technical Executive Position in IBM Global Services, since 1996) who is specialized in the area of application development and the implementation and integration of new technology in complex IT systems. She is a recognized world authority on the design and development of complex commercial applications and the methods by which they can be successfully implemented. Karin is responsible for developing and retaining top technical talents in IBM Global Business Services. In this role she is teaching, mentoring, coaching colleagues as well as organizing top technical conferences. She is leading the high potential Technical Resources Program, responsible for more than 600 individuals in Germany.
She is the Leader of the IT Architect Profession in north-east Europe (about 1000 certified IT Architects). In this role she is responsible to grow the IT Architect Community and identify new candidates and lead them to certification. Beside this Karin is responsible for the health of complex projects. She is providing technical guidance and recommendations based on technical viability assessments, inside and outside of IBM.
Dr. Evelyn Hagenah
Head of Department Sustainable Products and Consumption Patterns, Municipal Waste Management, The Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt)
Dr. Evelyn Hagenah works for the Federal Environment Agency of Germany and is the Head of the department “Sustainable Products and Consumption, Regional Waste Management”. Her Department is among other things responsible for evaluating the environmental effect of ICT and developing concepts for green ICT along the whole lifecycle. One of the tasks of the department is to evaluate applications for the Environmental Innovation Program of the Federal Environmental Ministry, which includes a focal point on Green IT.
Dr. Louise H. Stewart

Dr. Louise Stewart-Ladewig has worked as an independent environmental scientist since 2005. She studied environmental engineering and completed her doctorate on the development of recycling strategies for computers at the Technical University Berlin. Alongside computer life cycle optimisation, the main areas of her current IT research are software quality assurance and program development. Louise’s other research interests include environmental policy, products and consumption and transportation research. She also works as an external evaluator for the European Commission within the EuropeAid Framework Program.
Axel Junghans

Axel Junghans has been responsible for the global workplace management group since October 2000. As the Director of infrastructure Axel is reporting directly to Howard Hutchings Executive VP IT Infrastructure and is currently forming the global IT business services group for Heidelberg. Over the past seven years Axel has been responsible for developing, designing and aligning the Heidelberg workplace environment to have a workplace lifecycle established globally so that Heidelberg has been able to consequently reduce TCO and provide a stat of the art environment at the same time. In addition he is responsible for designing and implementing the global organization and developing the process from implementation to running services for the newly designed business service area in Wiesloch. Prior his assignment Axel was responsible for Local Support Wiesloch and BI application support. He has been working for Heidelberg for 19+ years in different IT related areas.
Axel is a graduate of the university of applied science Mannheim with an industrial engineer and the university of applied science Ludwigshafen with a graduate in business administration. Axel is based in Wiesloch, Germany, he is married with three children.
Richard Haagensen

Richard Haagensen is Head of Product Management for Smart Metering Application Software in Landis+Gyr EMEA. In his role he manages Landis+Gyr’s software portfolio as part of the company’s Gridstream solution offering, ensuring the company provides best-in-class energy management solutions to meet the market needs of today and tomorrow. Richard is also a member of Landis+Gyr global software architecture board. He is based in Jyskä, Finland. Prior to Landis+Gyr, he worked for Siemens AG in marketing and product management roles in Germany, Singapore and South Africa. He holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Lund Institute of Technology at the University of Lund in Sweden.
Prof. Birgit Wilkes

Since 2003 Prof. Birgit Wilkes holds a chair in building telematics at the University of Applied Sciences Wildau. Her main research is on energy efficiency especially in living environments and ambient assisted living. After studying computer science she began her professional life as project manager and later on as member of the board of Bercos GmbH developing PC-based audio-/video communication systems. This was succeeded in 1997 by a period as head of division at Deutsche Telekom Berkom, a research and development subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, where she started to get involved in the subject SmartHome. 2001 she moved to Eutelis Consult GmbH as managing consultant, where she was responsible for voice-data-convergence and SmartHome services.
Klaus Hieronymi
Chairman of the Environmental Board, Europe, the Middle East and Africa

Klaus Hieronymi is chairing the ‘Environmental Board’, the decision body for HP’s environmental strategy for Europe, Middle East and Africa. In addition, he is leading the department of 'Environmental Business Management' at HP for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) since 1998. In this role he is focusing on how better environmental outcomes lead to better business results, especially in the area of energy and resource conservation, climate change and recycling.
In collaboration with his team Hieronymi ensures HP’s compliance with environmental legislation and market trends, responds to customer inquiries, supports the sales organisation with environmental issues, and mandatory and voluntary Take Back programmes.
He is also responsible for the implementation of Take Back legislation within HP EMEA, focusing particularly on organizational structures to enable competitive markets and processes. His main focus is to ensure that environmental legislation is aligned with internal processes and reward structures as to encourage better environmental practices and product design.
Hieronymi represented HP on the Board of the European Recycling Platform (ERP) until June 2008. Co-founded by HP, Electrolux, Braun-Gillette and Sony, the ERP aims to ensure a cost-effective implementation of the European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, for the benefit of participating companies, their customers, the consumers and ultimately for the environment and the society.
He has published various scientific papers, particularly on the subject of take-back, and has given presentations on environmental topics at several European and international conferences.
After completing studies in natural science and business management in Germany, Austria and South Africa, Hieronymi joined HP in 1983. He has held various sales and marketing positions in Europe and Asia before joining HP’s worldwide environmental team.
David Murphy
Global Lead for Sustainability, Siemens IT Solutions and Services
David Murphy was appointed to Global Lead for Sustainability for Siemens IT Solutions and Services at the end of 2007.
In this capacity he is responsible for driving the sustainability agenda. His focus is on the role of IT in sustainable development, and in particular how IT can help organizations reduce their overall environmental impact.
He joined Siemens in 2001 and has previous NGO experience.
He studied Finance and Accounting in Leeds, England and is currently completing his MSc in Sustainable Development at Imperial College, London.
Dr. Christoph Mayer
Director, OFFIS, R&D Division Energy
Dr. Christoph Mayer studied mathematics and physics at the University of Göttingen. After completing his doctorate in mathematics in 1995, he held various senior positions in industry. Since 2003 he leads the research and development division “Energy” at the computer science Institute OFFIS where he concentrates on the use of ICT in the energy sector, including projects in the E-Energy context.
Dr. Rainer Weidmann

After my studies of physics I’ve been in research and education at university for 4 years before I started working for debis Systemhaus GmbH in 1996. debis was the worldwide IT supplier for the Daimler-Benz Group and had approximately 30,000 employees around the world. In 2001 debis was integrated to the IT department of German Telekom, now called T-Systems. At debis I started as a systems specialist for digital-OpenVMS and Cisco Networks, later on I migrated to a hard- and software specialist for Sun Solaris, and became the responsible technical project manager for the IRIDIUM Europe project. In1999 I moved back to the roots and took over the reposibility for the datacenter infrastructure (power, aircon, security, Networking, ...) for several datacenters in Germany. During this period I built, renewed and aquired new datacenters. Since 2007, I’m the head of department of Engineering Infrastructure and responsible for DC-design and technical DC-standards and “greenIT”.
Dr. Ralph Hintemann

Dr. rer.pol. Ralph Hintemann is senior researcher at the Borderstep Institute for Innovation and Sustainability. The emphasis of his research is upon innovation strategies, the development of sustainable future markets and the diffusion of new products and technologies. His particular focus is thereby upon environmental innovations and information and communication technologies. Dr. Ralph Hintemann studied mechanical engineering and economics at the RWTH Aachen University. He was thereafter member of the research staff from 1991 until 2000 with a focus on innovation and environmental research. In 2000, he completed his dissertation at the Department of Economics, RWTH Aachen. From 2001 until 2009 he worked in various technological areas at the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media - BITKOM in Berlin. His last positions were that of Head of Department IT-Infrastructure & Digital Office and Head of Business Excellence.
Dr. Ludger Ackermann
Senior Business Consultant, Mansystems Deutschland GmbH
Dr. Ludger Ackermann, as Senior Business Consultant, supervises the Data Centre Efficiency (DCE) division in Germany. Furthermore, he is responsible for IT service management solutions and implementation projects based on Mansystems´ management suite ExpertDesk. Mansystems was one of the first mid-sized IT companies in Europe, investing in the design of an analytical measurement tool illustrating data centres´ energy efficiency. Accordingly, Ludger´s guiding principle for green IT is: "You can only manage what you measure!"
Ludger´s interest for operating figures in the field of energy efficiency has its roots in his background as a natural scientist. He graduated from the University of Kassel in physics. Afterwards he continued working there as a research associate and obtained his PhD.
Prior to Mansystems, the data centre expert worked as a supervisor on large IT consulting projects for companies such as T-Systems, Springer Verlag and Daimler Chrysler Services.
